The house is gray / Dom się zrobił szary

External isolation layer is almost complete, and all that remains is to paint it somewhere in November. The house looks frustrating gray.

The team is now focused on cleaning up and painting the ceiling. The large wood blocks will stay in the natural colour, while the ceiling itself is being painted semi-transparent white.

In the meantime, our windows and doors are being produced (I hope ;-)) and we're looking for an electrician and for a fence. Why do these cost a fortune...

Zewnętrzna warstwa styropianu jest właściwie zrobiona i czeka na tynkowanie późną jesienią. W tej chwili dom wygląda... szaro.

Panowie pracują nad sufitem - szlifują i malują deski. Belki zostaną w kolorze naturalnym, a deski pomiędzy - lazurowe białe.

Okna i drzwi się robią, a my szukamy "dobrego i taniego" elektryka oraz wybieramy ogrodzenie. Budżet robi się znowu napięty :-/.

Still isolating / Ściany coraz grubsze

No pictures because the camera batteries died right after arriving at the construction site :-(.

EPS isolation of the garage is complete and the house is 70% done too. We leave it like that for now until the urgent interior work is completed.

Inside the house, the sad grey cellulose layer got covered with wood again and the house looks much nicer now :-). Next focus areas are the floor and ceiling. We need those to be present before heating installation next month.

In the meantime, we have finally signed the windows contract... after weeks of struggle and tough decisions :-). If all goes well, we will also purchase all doors there.

Next attempt to take pictures will be next Tuesday.

Niestety zdjęć nie ma, bo "monsz" dał mi aparat ze zdechłymi bateriami. A szkoda, bo zaczyna to coraz lepiej wyglądać:

- Styropian położony do końca na garażu i w większości na domu,

- Wełna celulozowa została przykryta deskami i od razu dom wygląda bardziej sympatycznie,

- Panowie rozpoczynają pracę na stropem i rusztem podłogi. Mają na to miesiąc... :-/.

Wreszcie udało nam się podpisać ostatni duży kontrakt - na okna. Niestety termin montażu trochę się obsunął - oby śnieg nie padał w październiku ;-).

The walls grow thicker (and warmer!) / Izolujemy...

Last week the house changed considerably, both inside and outside :-):

- 4 tons of recycled paper were placed over the inside walls. The interior looks pretty grey now.

- White EPS sheets started to cover the exterior walls. Interestingly they are spotted with "special" silver dots just like blue granules get added to Ariel. I would believe in the trick if I did not learn marketing ;-).

- Windows still not ordered :-(. We are stuck in discussing technical details with the vendor. It takes soooo loooong... :-(

Even though the progress is visible, I am a bit concerned that we are slightly behind schedule to start installing the heating system in the last week of September. I wouldn't like that to get delayed because it might get quite cold at that time of the year. We need to figure out a way to get things moving faster.

Also, we have re-calculated the budget and I expected to be visibly ahead. Reality is, because of some "additional purchases", we are behind, and with all the savings that we have already negotiated, we are just breaking even vs. plan. This is bad news, considering the amount of "nasty surprises" that is still ahead of us. Truth is, we did not plan much $ contingency ,but that was on purpose. I just did not want to take an even higher mortgage. Now we might need to take a short-term credit just to be able to move in.

W zeszłym tygodniu trochę się działo...

- 4 tony makulatury zostało nastrzyknięte na ściany. Wygląda szaro, ale jest miłe w dotyku :-).

- Elewacja w dużej części pokryła się białym styropianem w srebrne kropki (trick marketingowy podobny do niebieskich granulek w proszkach).

- Okna niestety wciąż nie zamówione, bo nadal ustalamy szczegóły techniczne. Zapowiada się na obsuwę :-/.

Tak że mimo iż wyraźnie widać postępy, to mam wrażenie, że nie wyrobimy się na ostatni tydzień września na montowanie ogrzewania - sporo roboty jeszcze zostało. Tymczasem dobrze by było tego nie opóźniać, bo w październiku zacznie się juz robić zimno i będą kłopoty :-(. Musimy poważnie porozmawiać z naszym wykonawcą, jak to popchnąć do przodu.

Podliczyliśmy też budżet, i tu niemiłe zaskoczenie. Ostro negocjowaliśmy ceny, więc spodziewałam się być do przodu. A tymczasem ledwie wychodzimy na zero vs. plan, co nie wróży dobrze na przyszłość. Niby mogliśmy założyć większą rezerwę na "niespodzianki", ale to by oznaczało jeszcze wyższy kredyt... Więc być może niestety skończy się dodatkowym małym kredytem, bo inaczej nie damy rady się wprowadzić :-/.

(Almost) as planned, work on the installation of cellulose isolation layer started this Monday. Looks really cool :-). / Prawie zgodnie z planem, w poniedziałek przyjechali panowie od wełny celulozowej i... jadą!

Vacation's over - back to work! / Koniec wakacji, wracamy do roboty

Our development crew is back at work and fully focused on two short-term objectives:

(1) Preparing window holes so that the window company can measure them - target asap,

(2) Preparing the "shelves" for the installation of cellulose isolation - target by Monday morning.

...and one mid-term one:

(1) Being ready for heating system installation at the end of September.

I would say the status is green for the short-term and yellow for the mid-term.

In parallel, we have made progress with other items:

- Finalized the heating installation contract,

- Held numerous discussions with the window-making companies, negotiating the price and also trying to make sure the offer meets the quality criteria. I think we're almost done there,

- Almost completed digging the 2nd well,

- Spontaneously ;-) ordered wood that will cover part of the outside wall. The wood is the beautiful and strong Siberian larch (Larix sibirica).

Panowie budowniczy wrócili na plac budowy i zasuwają, a mają sporo roboty i terminy:

(1) Jak najszybciej trzeba skończyć otwory okienne, aby można było zamówić okna,

(2) W poniedziałek przyjeżdża ekipa od wełny celulozowej, i trzeba skończyć "półeczki",

no a w trochę dłuższym terminie:

(1) Na drugą połowę września wszystko musi być przygotowane do montażu ogrzewania. I z tym może być trudno - czasu jest mało.

My w tym czasie również pociągnęliśmy parę rzeczy do przodu:

- Umowa na ogrzewanie podpisana (a właściwie nie podpisana, ale zapłacona ;-) ),

- Wykonawca okien (prawie) wybrany, no chyba że przyjedzie, zobaczy i ucieknie,

- Studnia (prawie) wykopana,

- Zamówione jest drewno na kawałek elewacji - przepiękny modrzew syberyjski (Larix sibirica).
